God's Special People Ministry

A program designed to meet the spiritual needs of people with special challenges.

Planning and Purpose
The summer of 1984 marked the beginning of our program when we offered a two week Vacation Bible School to children with special challenges. This developed into a weekly Sunday School program for children and adults. While we minister to people with physical and mental needs, they have the same spiritual needs as everyone else. Our goal is to share the gospel with them, adapting lessons and handwork to fit the individual needs of each student.

Staffing
The God's Special People (GSP) under the direction of Mrs. Carol Krawiec, a certified Special Education teacher with over 30 years of experience in the field. Carol has for the Delaware County Intermediate Unit, worked for Elwyn, and is currently a special education teacher for the Ridley School District. Along with Carol, our staff consists of an on-call registered nurse and at present 5 dedicated teachers. Most members of our ministry team have attended an in-depth training session conducted by Handi*Vangelism, a ministry who is concerned with meeting the needs of people with special challenges.

Sunday School Program
We meet each Sunday in the fellowship hall from 9:30-10:30am. Our program consists of Bible lesson that have been selected carefully and adapted where necessary. Each lesson is reinforced by visual aids, puppets, drama, pantomime, films, etc… Singing and Bible memorization are also part of our program. Student activity papers and handcrafts are geared to the ability of each student. On the 4th Sunday of each month we have a birthday celebration with special refreshments. On birthday Sunday, many students go to the auditorium to participate in the morning worship. Our students joyfully take part in prayer, church announcements, singing, and greeting time. This has provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet other people and feel a part of the congregational worship time.

Vacation Bible School
Each summer, in August we conduct a weekly Vacation Bible School program. Students come each night for games, refreshments, Bible stories and crafts. Many members of the congregation take part in this event which is always developed with a special theme.

Invitation
We invite any child or adult with special needs or challenges to attend our program.

Our Goal
Our goal is to present the gospel in a clear, understandable manner, so that every student may come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoy the abundant life He came to give us.
